The sacraments are efficacious signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us. The visible rites by which the sacraments are celebrated signify and make present the graces proper to each sacrament. They bear fruit in those who receive them with the required dispositions.

There are seven sacraments in the Catholic church, which can be separated into three categories - sacraments of initiation, sacraments of healing, and sacraments of service. Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation are the sacraments of initiation; Reconciliation (also called Penance or Confession) and Anointing of the Sick (also called Last Rites or Extreme Unction) are the sacraments of healing; and Holy Orders and Marriage are the sacraments of service.
SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION
In the Diocese of Charleston, children normally are baptized shortly after birth, make their first confession and receive the Eucharist in 2nd grade, and are confirmed in middle or high school. Parents must be active parishioners in order to have their child baptized, and first time parents are required to take a preparation class. For children not in the Catholic school system, two years of sacramental preparation religious education classes are required prior to receiving confession/Eucharist and prior to receiving confirmation. The necessary forms to have your child baptized/confirmed at St Mary's may be found here. For more information about the children's religious education program for children, see here.
RCIC and RCIA are for children and adults who have missed the normal progression of baptism, reconciliation/Eucharist, and/or confirmation, and who wish to be fully initiated. Please contact the parish office for more details.
SACRAMENTS OF HEALING
For the current confession schedule, please see this page.
In the case of a child who becomes gravely ill or is otherwise in danger of death, please contact a priest as soon as possible. In addition to receiving emergency baptism, Eucharist, and confirmation as necessary, children above the age of reason may also make a confession and receive Anointing of the Sick.
Adults who are gravely ill, preparing for surgery, or otherwise in danger of death should also receive Anointing of the Sick as soon as possible. Please keep this sacrament in mind while in discussion with friends or family who may not realize this sacrament exists or that one does not need to be on their deathbed in order to receive it.
Msgr Droze may be reached at 843.834.7050 and is also the after-hours emergency contact.
Fr Allen may be reached at 843.261.4188.
