Glossary of architectural terms:  portico - front porch; narthex/vestibule - lobby area between the outer and inner doors; nave - main body of the church; sanctuary - main altar area; chancel - area on either side of the sanctuary where the side-altars are; sacristy - room for preparation behind the sanctuary; gallery/balcony - upper seating area; clerestory windows - upper level windows
