LEADERSHIP & REFERENCE
Saint Mary of the Annunciation was established as the first parish of the Diocese of Charleston in 1820, under the leadership of its first bishop, the Right Reverend John England. Since then, new dioceses have been formed from the original territory: Savannah, Raleigh, Atlanta, and Charlotte. Today, the Diocese of Charleston encompasses the entire state of South Carolina.
Visit the Diocese of Charleston for information about the diocese and its parishes, to read statements and other writings from the bishop, and to find upcoming diocesan events. The Catholic Miscellany, the first Catholic publication in the United States, is the diocesan newspaper. |
The USCCB is an assembly of the hierarchy of the United States and the U.S. Virgin Islands who jointly exercise certain pastoral functions on behalf of the Christian faithful of the United States.
Visit the USCCB website to learn more about Church teachings, practices, current programs, and projects in the United States. Both the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults (a study version) are available to read for free online. |
The Holy See is the spiritual and administrative center of the worldwide Catholic Church. It is from Vatican City (Stato della Città del Vaticano), the world's smallest country, that the Supreme Pontiff, the Pope, shepherds the more than one billion Catholics across the globe (with the assistance of various administrative departments).
Visit the Vatican website to read papal documents and addresses, to tour the Vatican City State, and to learn more about the Church's work to share the Good News of Jesus Christ throughout the world. Visit stpetersbasilica.info for information on the artwork that can be found in the Vatican buildings, and the Vatican Museum for virtual tours. Visit the Vatican Observatory, the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences for information on advanced research in various disciplines.
