The Reverend H. Gregory West, JCL - Pastor


Father West was born in Charleston and was raised on Sullivan’s Island, where his family has been members of Stella Maris Parish for five generations. At age six he was playing "Mass" with neighborhood children. He attended Stella Maris School, Mount Pleasant, from Kindergarten through eighth grade, and Bishop England High School, Charleston. He graduated from the College of Charleston with a B.A. in Urban Studies then worked in the maritime industry for six years before entering Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary, Emmitsburg, Maryland, for five years of formation, from which he received a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Church History. 

Father West was ordained priest of the Diocese of Charleston on July 6, 1991 by the late Most Reverend David B. Thompson. In 1995 he received a Licentiate (Pontifical Masters) in Canon Law magna cum laude from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy.  His past assignments include Parochial Vicar, The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, Charleston; Founding Pastor, Saint Gregory the Great Parish and School, Bluffton; Pastor, Saint Andrew Parish, Clemson; Founding Pastor, Saint Paul the Apostle Parish, Seneca; Diocesan Chancellor; Diocesan Master of Ceremonies; Founding Dean, Lowcountry (now Beaufort) Deanery; Co-Vicar for Vocations.


He was named Founding Pastor of Saint Clare of Assisi Parish, Daniel Island, by Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone in February 2014 which he serves in addition to Saint Mary of the Annunciation of which he became Pastor on July 1, 2017. He also serves as a Judge in the Diocesan Tribunal, deciding marriage cases for Decrees of Nullity.

He has traveled to more than 30 countries, to 44 U.S. states, and has jumped out of perfectly good airplanes.

The Reverend Patrick S. Allen - Parochial Vicar

Father Patrick Allen is the parochial vicar of Saint Mary of the Annunciation parish and the parochial administrator of Corpus Christi, a parochial community of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter, hosted at Saint Mary of the Annunciation. Father Allen was born and raised in Lakeland, Florida, and is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College, Covenant Theological Seminary, and the University of the South (Sewanee). A convert to the Catholic faith, he was a priest of the Episcopal Church for twelve years and served parishes in South Carolina and Tennessee. Along with the founding members of Corpus Christi, he was received into full communion with the Catholic Church in June of 2013, and ordained a Catholic priest the following July. Father Allen is married to Ashley Duckett, MD; they have two children, Lucy and Henry. 

When not attending to his priestly duties or wrangling children, Father Allen is an avid if mostly hapless fisherman.

Dr. Paul M. Rosenblum - Deacon

Deacon Paul Rosenblum was born and raised in Worcester, MA. After graduating from Doherty Memorial High School, he attended Beloit College in Beloit, WI where he received a BA in Biology in 1976. He returned to Worcester and worked as a laboratory technician at Mason Research Institute where he met his future wife Cathy. After a stint as a research assistant at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Deacon Paul enrolled in graduate school at Boston University in 1981, receiving a PhD in Biology in 1986. Following a two-year period as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, he took a job on the biology faculty at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. In 1997 Deacon Paul was named the Willie D. Bryan Professor of Biology at Lyon College in Batesville, AR, a position he held until 2001 when he became head of the Biology Department at The Citadel. During his tenure at The Citadel Deacon Paul received an MA degree in Pastoral Ministry from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota in Winona. He entered the diaconate formation program in 2010 and was ordained a Permanent Deacon on May 9, 2014.
 
Deacon Paul has been involved in seafarers’ ministry as a volunteer with the Charleston Port and Seafarers’ Society since 2004. In October 2015 Bishop Guglielmone appointed him as the Apostleship of the Sea Port Minister for the Diocese of Charleston. Following his retirement from The Citadel in May 2017 he took on the Port Minister position on a full-time basis. He was recently elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the North American Maritime Ministry Association. Since 2005 he has also served as the leader of the RCIA program at The Citadel.
 
Deacon Paul and Cathy have one son, Kevin, who lives in Richmond, VA with his wife Genia and their son Elliott.
