It is a solemn period of preparation before we celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. During Lent, we seek to grow closer to the Lord through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. On Fridays of Lent, as well as on Ash Wednesday, Catholics over the age of 14 are required to abstain from eating meat. Ash Wednesday, as well as Good Friday, are also obligatory days of fasting for Catholics between the ages of 18 and 60. One full meal is allowed, as well as two lesser meals, 'sufficient to maintain strength.' The two lesser meals combined must be less than the full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted. Liquids, including milk and fruit juices, are allowed. Read FAQ's about Lent. Here are some suggestions on how to incorporate Lent into your family life. |
